for our COAST

Our District has some wonderful beaches. It also includes many coastal areas of scientific importance. Currently tourists flock to only a few well known destinations, such as West Wittering beach, putting too much strain on local infrastructure.

We want local residents and visitors to enjoy these areas in a sustainable way.

​Our harbours are areas of outstanding natural beauty.  We cannot accept any development plan that would threaten these areas.

Liberal Democrats will:

• explore new ideas to ease traffic congestion on the Manhood peninsular;
  
• promote a range of beaches and coastal towns to spread the load of tourism;
  
• work with local stakeholders and organisations to protect our natural harbours and wildlife;
  
• continue to insist on a plastic-free area to clean up our seas and beaches;
  
• work with Visit Chichester to help encourage more low-impact tourism choices along the coast;
  
• ensure our coast is vibrant throughout the year and offers good work opportunities for locals;
  
• provide cycle paths along the coast and to Chichester.

In Practice

Liberal Democrat candidate for The Witterings, Sue Milnes, has been active in surveying local residents.  Not only was beach traffic a concern but also day-to-day inconveniences such as bank closures and the lack of cash points.
